BREAKING NEWS!!!

Local 1260 Business Manager/Financial Secretary Brian Ahakuelo recently spear-headed a new initiative at Hawaiian Electric Company, aimed at revamping the way HECO schedules certain types of work. The initiative centered around job site reporting, which allowed a voluntary "test group" of HECO linemen to report directly to a job site, without first having to check-in at their home baseyard. The test project was located in Kahuku and recently completed. The project was very well received by both the lineman test group and HECO management. In fact, the project was such a success, that Business Manager Ahakuelo today met with the test group & HECO Vice President of Energy Delivery Dan Giovanni, as the group was rewarded with a $2 per hour bonus, for each hour each crew member worked on the project. That was in addition to an 8% per hour reporting fee and all contractual penalties earned by those employees during the pilot project. The award was given based on the project being completed on-time and under budget, with no safety related mishaps reported.

"This is yet another example of how our Local Union can work together with the Utility Companies, to enhance the working experience for our members and to better the lives of their families.", Ahakuelo said. "I am proud to have helped lead this initiative and look forward to more in the future."
