New Additions to the Local 1260 Executive Board!

When Business Manager/Financial Secretary  Brian Ahakuelo began his term last July, one of his initiatives was to better represent all 3,300 members of Local 1260.   Today, that initiative took a huge step forward with the addition of Robert Mafnas and Jose Salas to the Executive Board.   Mafnas will represent Unit 21-Guam Naval Station and Salas the Territory of Guam.  Both men were sworn in this morning during our January Executive Board Meeting.

The addition of Mafnas and Salas was made possible by a change in our local union by-laws and approved by International President Edwin D. Hill.  The change was recently put to vote at all of the unit meetings and the resolution was overwhelmingly passed by the membership.

“The expansion of the Executive Board will help us better serve ALL of our 3,300 members,” said Ahakuelo.  “It will also give our 1,000 members in Guam the voice and representation they have long been lacking and rightfully deserve.”   Ahakuelo also added, “As IBEW Local 1260’s organizing culture continues to grow and as we steadily re-invent the labor movement, the addition of Guam on the Executive Board and the “New Generation of Worker’s Committee” allows us the opportunity to reach into our communities in both Guam and Hawaii.  As the first ever Board Members from the Territory of Guam, Robert and Jose will always hold a special place in the history of our Local Union and we are proud to welcome them to the Executive Board.”
