In keeping with his initiative to improve the communication structure of Local 1260 and with the growing relevance of social media as a viable form of communication, Business Manager/Financial Secretary Brian Ahakuelo is happy to unveil our brand new “Local 1260 Facebook Group”.  It is the FIRST EVER Facebook group to be administered exclusively by the Local Union staff.

It’s a MEMBERS ONLY closed group that has been several weeks in the making.   The goal was to create a secure forum in which members could exchange information and ideas, as well as receive the latest updates from the Local Union Staff.   All Local 1260 members are encouraged to join this group, but must first provide identity verification information.   Remember, only Local 1260 members are eligible to join - family members, spouses, friends who are not 1260 members and people who wish to join under an alias, will not be allowed admission.   In this way, members will be free to openly express themselves, raise concerns, discuss issues and ask questions of the Local Union staff, all within the confines of a professionally administered environment.   Certainly, disagreements will be heard, but they will also be addressed in a positive and productive manner.

To join the group, all a member has to do is send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .   The group administrator will then contact the member with some simple verification instructions. Again, this group will be open exclusively to ALL 3,300 Local 1260 members across Hawaii and Guam.

As you may know, the Local Union administers more than 35 contracts spread across 16 different units.   Our members deserve a voice and it is our sincere hope that all of our members will participate in this group.  In time, it will not only serve as a venue to express concerns, questions and issues, but also serve as a mechanism to highlight and celebrate the diversity of our Local Union.   Many of our members are very active and productive members of their communities.   This Facebook group will help to showcase their many strengths, talents and abilities and ultimately, help strengthen and unify our Union.

And even with this Facebook group, there is still much more ahead for Local 1260.  Very soon, we will be unveiling a new television marketing campaign that will spotlight our members as hard-working contributors in our communities.  On its own, the campaign will help shape public perception of our Local Union in a positive manner.   In the big picture, the campaign and the new Facebook group are just a couple of the ways that Business Manager Ahakuelo is continuing in his effort to improve how Local 1260 conducts business and ultimately, better serve all of our 3,300 members.
